These Classic Banana Pudding Parfaits feature homemade banana pudding, wafers cookies and whipped cream for the ultimate nostalgia dessert comfort food.
Love Bananas? Try this Peanut Butter and Jelly Banana Bread
For the longest time, I didn’t think I liked bananas.
I’m not sure what I was thinking because I eat a banana almost every single day now.
I often have a craving for banana pudding. There’s just something about the taste paired with some Nilla wafers that’s super delicious and comforting to me.
I mean who wouldn’t love a big ole spoonful of this Classic Banana Pudding Parfaits?!
These Classic Banana Pudding Parfaits are like a banana cream pie but in a small cute jar and much simplier too.
I stated in my Birds Nest Easter Dirt Cups that I’m a fan of instant pudding. It’s quick, delicious and a time saver but homemade pudding… it’s amazing.
And to be honest, it’s not all that hard, long or complicated.
A few staple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry, and you’re about 10 minutes away from homemade banana pudding.
I made the homemade banana pudding in this STUNNING Swiss Diamond Swiss Diamond 6.9L Enameled Cast Iron Round Casserole.
It has earned a permanent spot on my counter top.
It’s versatile and quite frankly a stunner.
It’s perfect for slow braises, big pots of soup and this banana pudding recipe.
I might be Swiss Diamond’s biggest fan.
I also have this 6.3 Qt. Shallow Casserole which I used to make these One Pan Pork Chops with Apples and Cinnamon and it also has a permanent spot on my stove top.
Basically, I use these two pans for EVERYTHING!!
and I’ve already got my eye on this Cast Iron 8.9 Oval Casserole
Isn’t that red color stunning? Especially up against the pale yellow of the banana pudding.
WHAT IS A PARFAIT?
A parfait is a layered dessert made up of pudding, ice cream, cookies and/or cakes, prepared in a tall glass.
You can mix up different flavor combinations to come up with unique and delicious parfaits.
HOW DO YOU MAKE CLASSIC BANANA PUDDING PARFAITS?
Take 3 eggs and separate the whites from the yolks. Place them into a bowl and add one whole egg.
Into a large pot, over medium heat, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour and salt. Stir in egg mixture, milk and heavy cream.
Cook, uncovered for 5 minutes, stirring often, until thickened.
Remove from heat and add vanilla.
Allow to cool slightly before assembling parfaits.
Into a large ziploc bag, crush Nilla Wafers.
Place 2 tablespoons wafers into the bottom of a parfait glass or small jar.
Top with 2 tablespoons pudding, followed by 2 more tablespoons of wafers and ending with 2 more tablespoons banana pudding.
Top each glass with a Nilla wafer, slice of banana and a dollop of whipped cream.
CAN I USE INSTANT PUDDING TO MAKE BANANA PUDDING PARFAITS?
Absolutely. You can purchase instant or cook and serve banana pudding at any grocery store.
CAN I MAKE THESE BANANA PUDDING PARFAITS IN ADVANCE?
I do not recommend making these ahead of time.
What I would recommend is making the pudding ahead of time and assembling just before serving.
The problem with making them ahead is the cookies will become soggy.
WHAT ARE SOME OTHER PARFAIT FLAVORS?
To me, parfaits are much like Dirt Cups. I have a Peanut Butter Dirt Cup and also a Lemon Dirt Cup on the site.
You can choose any type of pudding or ice cream flavor you’d like and pair it with your favorite cookie, cake of fruit.
Here are some parfait flavors we like to make;
- Yogurt, Fruit and Granola parfaits. Layer your favorite yogurt flavor with chopped fruit such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries and sprinkle with granola.
- Chocolate and Vanilla Parfaits. Layer chocolate pudding with golden sandwich cookies.
- Chocolate Covered Strawberry Parfaits. Layer Chocolate pudding, followed by chopped strawberries and repeat the layers. Top with crushed peanuts.
- Banana Split. Layer this homemade banana pudding with chocolate sandwich cookies, chopped strawberries and repeat. Top with whipped cream, chopped peanuts and a cherry on top.
These Classic Banana Pudding Parfaits are an easy but elegant dessert.
