If there is one dessert from my childhood, its dirt cups. They’re classic, delicious and super fun!
Long before homemade treats were banned from being brought into schools, my mother made dirt cups for all our school parties.
I still love dirt cups to this day and often make them for my kids but when I got an idea to add peanut butter to them, GAME OVER!
If there is one food in this house that we all agree on and love, it’s peanut butter. Peanut butter cups are a favorite amongst all of us so when OREO came out with the Peanut Butter Pie OREOS, I was all over them. In our opinion, they’re the best ones yet!
I used the OREOS as the base of the peanut butter dirt cups. They are a limited release, so if you can’t find them, Peanut Butter OREOS or Nutter Butters would also be fantastic, so don’t fret!
Peanut Butter Dirt Cups are just like the classic dirt cup recipes expect we’re subbing peanut butter cookies, making simple peanut butter pudding and topping them off with chopped Peanut butter cups. Where my peanut butter fans at?!
Diving into the layers you get crunchy cookies, thick indulgent chocolate pudding, light and fluffy peanut butter pudding and a peanut butter cup to top it all off! If you aren’t adding these ingredients to our shopping list, what are you waiting for?!
These Peanut Butter Dirt Cups couldn’t be easier to make and the kids LOVE them!

I’m begging you to make these Peanut butter dirt cups. They might be the best dessert I’ve made of 2018 so far. That could be the peanut butter talking but these babies have quickly become a staple in my house.
And the best part, they’re made in less than 15 minutes! Now go forth and make these Peanut Butter Dirt Cups. You can thank me later!
Cooks Tip: Not a fan of chocolate? That’s ok. My mom often made “Sand Cups” for us too. Just use Nilla wafers for the cookies, vanilla for the pudding and you’re favorite candy on top or more Nilla wafers.

Yes! Peanut butter is for sure the one thing everyone can agree on loving in our house, too. It was actually one of my biggest fears for my kids – a peanut allergy. The thought of them not being able to experience peanut butter and chocolate together was so sad! Thankfully 1 out of 2 so far are in the clear!

I agree! We got so lucky in our house so bring on all the peanut butter!

Oh my goodness! Peanut Butter Pie OREOS?!?!?! I need these in my pantry ASAP – I didn’t even know they came out! These dirt cups are so cute too. I’ll be making these dirt cups for myself and the “sand” cups for my partner. He’s more of a sand-y guy haha.
Megan | Strawberry Blondie Kitchen says
The OREOS are amazing and just take these Peanut Butter Dirt Cups to another level of amazingness! You can’t go wrong with either a dirt cup or sand cup ? Thanks Carmy!

Megan, you are killing me with these dirt cups! My husband and I are peanut butter fanatics, as in “can’t get enough”. I think my young nephews would go crazy for them — (of course we will too) and I’m going to save this recipe for their next visit. Wowza!
Megan | Strawberry Blondie Kitchen says
Lisa, we can’t get enough peanut butter in our lives! I hope you, your husband and your nephews love them as much as we do! Thank you!

I’m that peanut butter lover you’re talking about!! Those peanut butter pie Oreos are SO good. I bet they make these cups even better than I can even imagine. One thing I know for sure is that one little dirt cup wouldn’t cover it for me!
Megan | Strawberry Blondie Kitchen says
One dirt cup was definitely not enough for me. They’re addictive and so delicious! thanks Miranda!

I have such a smile on my face reading this post, as I haven’t had dirt cups in years! They were called “Jersey Dirt” around here when I was a kid, and they were always a hit at birthday parties and for a fun dessert when our friends came over. Adding peanut butter and peanut butter cups to them is brilliant! Can’t wait to make them and have an (improved) trip down memory lane! 🙂
Megan | Strawberry Blondie Kitchen says
Aw, so glad I could make you smile and bring back some memories. Isn’t it wonderful how some foods are so nostalgic? Thank you, Amanda! ?
Marisa Franca says
What a cute idea for children!! I bet those cups don’t last long. I’ve never heard of dirt cups — but I don’t have little ones around. What I do have is grandsons who would love the idea of this treat — especially the 3 year old. This is on the roster to make. Can’t wait for them to see the dirt cups.
Megan | Strawberry Blondie Kitchen says
Kids love these treats so I know your grandson would be so happy to help you make (and eat!) these cups! ? Thanks Marisa!
Dana says
What a nostalgic treat! I remember making these at day camp when I was a kid. Though ours didn’t include PB cups, so I think I’m going to have to revisit these so I can experience the beauty. Maybe add some sticks in the mud (chopped pretzel?) to add some salt to that sweet. Thanks for the inspo!
Megan | Strawberry Blondie Kitchen says
Dana, yes I love a salty sweet combo and pretzels go with everything. Thank you!
Debra Caraballo says
Hi! if you wanted to make this in a pan, what size do you think would work? 8×8 or bigger? Thanks!
Megan | Strawberry Blondie Kitchen says
Hi Debra, I would put this into a 13″ x 9″ pan.
