It’s another #Appleweek and I’m so excited to be participating again this year!
This fall is going to be filled with delicious food and first up we’re celebrating the Apple.
This week myself and a few of my blogger friends will all be sharing recipes using Envy apples.
there’s everything from sweet, savory and delicious Fall drinks you’ll want to whip up and savor the season.
First up for me this week are these Apple Butterscotch Magic Bars.
Who doesn’t love a gooey magic bar!?
Well this one tastes like apple pie and it’s so easy to make!
You may be wondering, what is a magic bar?
It’s a bar that starts with a crust, topped with any two types of chips chocolate, white chocolate, peanut butter, etc, coconut, nuts and then drizzle the entire thing with a can of sweetened condensed milk. It’s then baked and everything magically comes together into an ooey , gooey bar that is simply irresistible.
You can make magic bars with a variety of ingredients to incorporate the flavors of any season.
I have a Candy Corn Magic Bar recipe I highly recommend if you like candy corn and they’re perfect for Halloween.
So for Apple Week I knew I had to make an apple pie version.
INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED FOR APPLE BUTTERSCOTCH MAGIC BARS:
You will need the following items to make these apple butterscotch bars
- Ginger Snap Cookies
- Butter
- Hazelnut Flour (you can eliminate and just use more gingersnaps)
- White chocolate chips
- Butterscotch chocolate chips
- shredded sweetened coconut
- Envy Apples
- cinnamon
- walnuts
- sweetened condensed milk
HOW TO MAKE APPLE BUTTERSCOTCH MAGIC BARS
First, start by pulverizing your ginger snap cookies into fine crumbs. I place mine into the food processor and process until a fine powder. Then add in 1/2 hazelnut flour.
I used Bob’s Red Mill Hazelnut flour and I just love it! It has one ingredients hazelnuts. It adds so much nuttiness to bars, oatmeal and anything you use it with.
Next, pour in melted butter and press into the bottom of a 8 x 8 pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 5-7 minutes.
Next, top with white chocolate chips and butterscotch chips.
Followed by coconut
then chopped apples and cinnamon spice
walnuts
and finally drizzle with a can of sweetened condensed milk.
Bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes and allow to cool. Slice into 9-12 bars, depending on how generous you are feeling.
WHAT CAN I USE IN PLACE OF GINGER SNAPS FOR APPLE BUTTERSCOTCH MAGIC BARS?
I love the ginger and molasses flavoring that the cookies add to the crust but if you aren’t a fan of gingersnap cookies, you can use
Graham crackers
your favorite cookie
Golden OREOS like I used in the Candy corn magic bars.
TIPS FOR MAKING APPLE BUTTERSCOTCH MAGIC BARS
I suggest dicing your apples pretty small. You don’t want to bite into a huge piece of an apple so the smaller the better. I like to use a sharp knife like this Zyliss knife to get an even, uniform cut.
I recommend using good quality chocolate chips. I can really taste a difference in store brand and higher quality chips, especially butterscotch chips.
Allow the bars to cool completely. This lets the sweetened condensed milk really blend all of the ingredients together.
Apple Butterscotch Magic Bars are the quintessential dessert to celebrate the Fall season’s apple bounty!
