These Cocoa Pebbles treats are fun for all your holiday parties this season and they taste great too!
Have you begun your holiday baking yet? So far, I have only baked 1 batch of cookies. Last year I vowed to make a different cookie/treat every day, for the month of December, and by the time it was December 23rd my freezer was stocked and ready to be boxed up into gift packages for all my neighbors. It was such a great feeling not to be scrambling trying to make 6 batches of different cookies to pass out the day before Christmas Eve. Like everything else this year, I’m totally slacking again.
However, I did make these around Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Crispy Treats which I am rather pleased with. I was toying around with this idea in my head for weeks. Do you ever do that? You have this brilliant idea and then you do a little happy dance when everything fits nicely into place like you envisioned it?
I have officially DVR’d every Christmas special on tv. I absolutely love re-watching holiday classics that I grew up with, in the company of my children. Year after year, we watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Charlie Brown, Santa Claus is coming to town and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It always blows my mind how they made those stop motion movies back in the day. They’ve always been a holiday tradition for me and that’s how they’ll stay for my kids, well that is until they are outta my house.
We enjoy the new classics too. Such as Shrek the Halls, Toy Story (The time Forgot) and Ice Age (A Mammoth Christmas Special) I just love Christmas and all that comes along with it. Spending time with the ones you loved, gathered around the tree, sipping hot chocolate and eating Reindeer Cocoa Pebbles treats, it doesn’t get any sweeter than that.
My son’s favorite cereal is Cocoa Pebbles. No lie, without fail, every.single.morning he eats it. Therefore, I wanted to create a holiday crispy treat and this is how my brain worked. What types of Christmas things are brown? Reindeer. Regular reindeer or Rudolph. What can I use for the ears. Pretzels. M&M or Dot candy for the nose? Dot Candy. Oh and let’s put a scarf on him with edible gold beads that will resemble sleigh bells. Yes, that is the mind of a crazy person, for sure.
And that folks is how I came up with these adorable Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Crispy Treats
I went on a search for a cookie cutter with my vision, but I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for. Then I found this ornament cookie cutter flipped it upside down and thought to myself, I can make this work. Besides the point on the top, I think it could be a Reindeer with a neck, perfect for a scarf.
I went home and made the Cocoa Pebbles base, adding a secret ingredient and spread it out onto a jelly roll pan. Nest I cut out my reindeer heads. I rounded out the head and also made the neck part a little slimmer than the cookie cutter was showing. This cookie cutter almost resembles that of a Spade, so while I was making these, I thought these would make perfect Grinch. The Grinch has sort of pointed head with those little frolicks of hair and you could use Fruit Pebbles and pipe on a red neckline with white ruffles. I think I may just have to make those….probably next year, you know me, slacker this year.
Also, being the crazy person I am, I thought once the face of the reindeer was shaped, you could also make these elves. So many possibilities from one cookie cutter. Once the basic shape was formrd, I moved onto breaking up the pretzels to resemble that of antlers. Looking back now, I would have broken them a little more so they aren’t so rounded but, alas, they’re cute anyways.
I stuck the pretzels onto either side of his head and the proceeded onto the scarf. I unrolled Fruit Rollups and cut them into strips. I wrapped them around the neck and extended a little section off to the side to make it look like a scarf.
Finally, I set up a little “gluing” station. I melted some white chocolate to use as glue and placed dotted on some eyes, plopped on the nose and placed 3 little dots on the scarf to place the “bells” Let them sit for a few minutes so the chocolate dries.
And there you have the sweetest little Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Crispy Treats. I mean seriously, is he not the cutest?
