Happy fourth of July friends! How are you celebrating America’s birthday today?
As mentioned before, we’re kicking off our annual block party complete with a 18′ water slide. This is how we do! So while the kids are enjoying the slide….who am I kidding, us adults are getting down on that action too, but while it’s just the kids for a little while, us adults will be sipping on this delicious refreshing red white and blue sangria. It’s the perfect cocktail to serve at a party as you can make it and leave it out for your guests to enjoy without having to feel like a bartender all day and night.
Every year I’m just a little sad to see the fourth of July. While I absolutely love celebrating with food, fireworks and friends, July fourth also marks the middle of summer. Therefore, in 6 shorts weeks my kids will be returning back to school. My oldest going to kindergarten for the first time. (Excuse me while I go cry in a corner) I enjoy summer and all it has to offer. The weather, produce, swimming, bonfires all the reasons why summer is my favorite season. Nevertheless, I will savor the rest of this summer, starting with this refreshing red white and blue sangria.
I’m wrapping up this Fourth of July week with alcohol. You didn’t think I’d leave out the alcohol for the fourth of July now did you?
I love wine, fruit and quick cocktails so sangria is a no brainer. Sangria is awesome and so versatile. Round up some fruit, your favorite wine and additional flavorings, if you choose, mix them all together and you’ve got yourself sangria. SO easy and delicious too! For this red white and blue sangria I choose to use strawberries, blueberries and white wine, obviously. I used a small star cookie cutter to cut out the pineapples but you could use any fruit you’d like. I’ve also seen apples, watermelon and star fruit cut into cute little stars. Feel free to use whatever you’d like. It makes the sangria that more festive.
Another great reason everyone loves sangria is how adaptable it can be. When falls rolls around, I have a fantastic autumn sangria I’ll be sharing that uses pomegranates. I serve it at all our fall gatherings and it’s the first thing to go. What can I say, everyone loves a delicious cocktail and well, wine of course! I’ve also made sangria with cranberries and cinnamon which gives the sangria a nice warmth feeling. When the cooler seasons roll around, I’ll be sure to post those recipes for you so you can enjoy sangria year round!
I found those adorable striped straws at the Dollar Store but I’ve also seen them online. Aren’t they adorable? They dress up any beverage and are a must for your next party so your guests can jazz up their drinks.
This red white and blue sangria is quick and easy and I hope you’ll consider bringing it to your fourth of July party this year! I hope you all have a wonderful day celebrating America’s birthday. Have fun and be safe!
