Creamy, delicious and pure comfort food, this healthy Crockpot Chicken and Wild Rice Soup comes together quickly thanks to your slow cooker. Serve it tonight with some bread for dunking!
It’s soup weather, people! Well just as soon as this small heat wave we’re having decides to disappear. Hello 80’s in October!
I love soup. To me there is nothing more comforting than a hot bowl of soup and a nice piece of crusty bread. And for me, the creamier the soup, the better.
When I was in high school, I would go to the mall with my girlfriend and the first place we would hit up was Panera. Gimme some of that broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl, please. Screw the food court and the pizza, I wanted the soup.
A few weeks ago I joined a group on Facebook, Festive Foodies Event Planning, which is right up my alley because I absolutely love any occasion to celebrate food.
There are different hosts and different types of events. I just participated in #CookbookClub on Friday, where I shared my grandmother’s Pumpkin Nut Cookies. I highly recommend you make those cookies and look at the bottom of the post so you can see the other recipes that were created for this event too from other foodies.
The next ever is #Crocktober, which is today, and I knew I was going to whip up a hearty soup.
The slow cooker is my BFF. I use it all year round. You throw stuff in it and dinner is ready in just a few hours. The house smells amazing and the recipe usually feeds a crowd so what’s not to love?!
When I was little my mother always made soup in the slow cooker. She would make Chicken Fajita Stew and it was simply amazing. The aromas wafting from the chicken were enough to make you starving all day long. I’ll have to post that recipe with winter.
Same is true with this Crockpot Chicken and Wild Rice Soup. The creamy base, packed full of veggies, wild rice and chicken is absolutely delicious. I serve mine with a crusty baguette and there is silence at the table for 30 minutes while all of us are eating.
I made this Crockpot Chicken and Wild Rice Soup with rotisserie chicken. That way it makes it a simple heat up and go meal which is done in as little as 2 hours. You could easily make this with chicken breasts and cook for longer and then shred the chicken once everything is cooked. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
As the weather continues to dip, break the slow cooker out of hiding and whip us this hearty Crockpot Chicken and Wild Rice Soup. It’ll keep you full, warm cozy on those cold winter nights.

What a great way to cook wild rice too, since it takes so long anyway. Delicious sounding soup, and I love using rotisserie chickens.

Was super excited to make this recipe. Started getting my ingredients out and then read the first step….Place onion through rice in slow cooker and cook on high/low for…. What does this mean??? How much liquid to add? Is this a typo or a case of not giving instructions in plain speak? Oh well, back to the recipe hunt for a good chicken and wild rice soup. Wonh, wonh.
Megan | Strawberry Blondie Kitchen says
Hi! I apologize you’ve had some trouble. The first step says to place onion through wild rice into the slow cooker. The 6th ingredient list 4 ounces of chicken stock and the 7th ingredient lists 2 cups of water. Therefore, you place the chicken stock and water in with all the ingredients above and including the wild rice, into the slow cooker. Hope this makes sense and you’ll give it a try!
