These Apple Cider Donuts with Maple Frosting are perfect on a crisp fall morning with a hot cup of coffee. They’re moist, delicious and bursting with apple and maple flavors.
I’m going to make a confession here that might blow your mind. I am not in love with donuts. I like donuts but I just don’t crave them and need them every weekend.
To me, they’re too sweet and a calorie bomb taboot. My husband and daughter on the other hand, well they like to get donuts every weekend. Shes loved donuts since she was a baby and the hubs can’t resist a fried donut with maple frosting. They’re his favorite.
I saw this recipe in Cooking Light and had this immediate calling to make them and I am so glad that I did. I changed the recipe slightly and added the maple frosting and even I was in shock at how much I loved them. They’re so good, I would eat them every weekend!
We go apple picking every year and the orchard we go to does have apple cider and apple cider donuts that are to die for but at $9/gallon and $14/dozen donuts, I’m taking a hard pass. So when I saw this recipe, I knew I had to give them a try.
The donuts at the orchard are covered in cinnamon sugar and the original recipe called for a maple tahini glaze, but knowing my husband loves maple frosting, I opted to make them “not so light” and dunked them right into the frosting.
I must say, these donuts are JUST as good without the frosting and a whole heck of a lot healthier too. I opted to eat mine with the frosting because, ahem healthier lifestyle.
I also loved these donuts buts they are not fried. They’re baked in a donut pan, which I love! Again, I don’t make donuts often but when I do, I bake them.
These Apple Cider Donuts with Maple Frosting are incredible. I knew instantly from taking one taste of the batter that these were a winner.
They’re moist, delicious and bursting with apple flavor. The maple frosting adds the perfect complement and takes these donuts to the next level.
Apple Cider Donuts with Maple Frosting are simple, easy and should be a part of your weekend breakfast. I’d recommend making a double batch because we definitely didn’t have enough to last us the entire weekend.

I’ve now made these 3 times since the first batch and I love them just the same, if not better. I’ve rolled them in cinnamon sugar, frosted them and had them hot and fresh out of the oven. No matter how you choose to eat them, you can’t go wrong, they’re simply amazing!
