Irish Soda Bread Scones are buttery, tender and slightly sweet from the addition of orange zest, which is delightful! They’re quick, easy and perfect for breakfast, afternoon tea and everything in between!
It’s March and I’m positively delighted. Not only was it almost 60 degrees today but the stores we’re beaming with shamrocks and all things Irish.
My entire family is getting over the flu. I am so over this winter so any signs of Spring are raising my spirits right now.
I’ve already had my once a year shamrock shake and it was amazing! The very next day, I made these Irish Soda Bread Scones. What can I say, it’s all St. Patrick’s Day around here for the next few weeks.
I was on a mission this year to redo most of my St. Patrick’s day recipes as I made them the first year I was blogging. I would like to think that I’m a better photographer now (equipped with a new camera + lens) An update on many recipes on the blog is a must.
Yes, I made them while on the cleanse and yes, I made myself the smallest one ever. 1. I LOVE Irish soda bread 2. I have to test the recipe to make sure it works and 3. No self-control
I used a hodge podge of recipes I found online to create these Irish Soda Bread scones and the result is better than I imagined. They’re soft, buttery and filled with delicious currants, orange zest and caraway seeds.
Throw out any notion you have of dry scones because those don’t live here. Even my picky son absolutely loved them and asked for a 2nd.
I quickly whipped up some honey butter to spread on the scones and it sent them over the top.
These Irish Soda Bread Scones are quick, simple and amazingly delicious.

Making this as a scone is a tasty switch!

First, your Irish Soda Bread Scones look mouthwatering. Seriously drool-worthy. I love scones and I love Irish Soda bread — the mix-ins that you’ve included — orange zest and currants really take this to the next level. I don’t know how you have the willpower not to eat two or three large scones all at once. I’m impressed with your resistance — and I’d like to offer to take these off your hands, you know — so you don’t break your diet.

I love this idea! I like soda bread, but it makes a HUGE loaf and we can never get through it all. I bet with these I could make the perfect amount of bread, and give away the rest. And I’m glad you’re feeling better- the flu is no fun at ALL!

Hmmm…..this sounds very interesting. I make soda bread, but have never made soda scones. I happen to LOVE scones. I will have to give this wonderful a recipe a try. I know they will for sure be delicious. Prefect with soup, chili…or for me just with butter.

Yum! I love Irish Soda Bread and I love Scones plus with the amazing flavors of current, caraway and orange zest, wow! I am so glad you are all on the mend now and wow do those Irish Car Bomb brownies sound amazing. I can’t wait for that recipe. These are perfect for breakfast on St. Patrick’s Day!

I bet honey butter really did put them over the top! I made pumpkin scones last fall for the first time ever and I couldn’t believe how easy they were. I’m on the hunt constantly for new scone recipes now. I can’t believe you had the self control for only 1 because I know I wouldn’t have been able to!

I love Irish soda bread, but as scones? This sounds amazing, and such a great idea! I can’t wait to make them!

How clever, I never thought to make scones of this. I love Irish Soda bread, I like that soda taste to it. My favorite way to serve this is lightly toasted with a smear of butter. These look fantastic!

I’m glad y’all are feeling better! We have avoided the flu so far and I’m crossing my fingers it stays away. And those scones look amazing. All buttery and full of currents. Yum! I can just about smell them now.

Wow good for you and your husband for the cleanse! What kind are you doing? I don’t think I have that much will power! Your photography is soooo good!! Hooray for new camera and lens! These scones, too. Whoa. Irish soda bread has been on my list to make, but I think making it in a scone form may be even better!

These look and sound so so delicious. I love scones and I don’t make them enough. They look so perfectly fluffy within, and golden crisp on the outside. My belly is grumbling!

These scones look scrumptious, just looking at the pictures makes me hungry. I’m always on the look out for new scone recipes as they’re so quickly made. These are on my to do list!

I absolutely love that you turned Irish Soda Bread into scones! They’re so adorable and the crumb looks fantastic. I love that they’re individually portioned, too. (I can never control myself around a loaf of raisin-studded soda bread!) They would be so great for breakfast, or an evening snack (maybe with an Irish coffee on the side!)

Oh my goodness!! I was raised on Irish soda bread and it is one of my favorite things to eat. I learned how to make it in the Irish cottage of my grandmother. I tried these today so I could bring them to Sunday School and they are so scrummy!! I didn’t overmuch so they are Fluffy! Thanks so much!❤️

YAY! That makes me so happy!

Just made them. They are SO good! I was tired of the regular soda bread and these delivered the softer texture I wanted. I made the first batch with the 1/3 scoop and a second batch with the 1/4 cup, getting 12 from the mix. I left out the glaze to keep them a little more traditional. 10/10 would recommend. ☘️☘️

Yay! I’m so happy you enjoyed them! 💚

Just made these for my book club tonight. My caraway seeds order was delayed and I subbed craisins for currants. Used my 1/4 measuring cup. These are incredible. I’m going to have to make a second batch this afternoon as I don’t know if I have the willpower to not eat them all before book club! I put the buttermilk in the freezer for about 30 minutes, so it was extremely cold/icy. Not sure if that added to the incredibly fluffy texture. Never thought fluffy could describe either scones or Irish soda bread. Delicious.

So glad you enjoyed these! I hope the book club loves them as much! ❤️
