What’s not to love about a delicious cheeseburger piled on top of pizza dough and baked until golden brown and bubbly. This Cheeseburger Pizza features your favorite burger toppings; ketchup, mustard, tomatoes, pickles and cheese and tastes just like a classic cheeseburger.
I have an unhealthy obsession with pizza. It first starts with my love of all things bread, piled high with delicious types of meat and then topped with cheese, my favorite thing in the World (shoulda been born a mouse as my husband always likes to say) I also love cheeseburgers, which as mentioned above, have all 3 same components as pizza. Now imagine if the 2 of them merged together to create the ultimate food-cheeseburger pizza, holy love affair.
This Cheeseburger pizza is so, so good. It honestly tastes just as if you were biting into a delicious, juicy cheeseburger. I’ll go as far to say the only thing that could make this better is bacon. But, for this pie, I wanted it to taste just as a “plain” cheeseburger does. So while I do love bacon on a burger, I decided to leave it out this go around. Next time, I’ll be adding some and calling it Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza. If you guys make this version before me, let me know how much better it is with bacon. Because, really we all know, everything is better with bacon.
I, like all of you I’m sure, have been eating pizza for as long as I can remember. Some of my fondest memories are driving with my dad to our local pizza joint, we’ll call it “The Hut” and waiting for our pizza to be done. Now “The Hut” had some pretty awesome video games to play while waiting. So, I believe my dad would call in the pizza and then we’d literally hop in the car .2 seconds later so we could play said video games in the waiting area. The games we played…Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Mortal Kombat. I mean, THOSE were the games of my childhood and being a sibling of a total tomboy (love you, Jill) I was totally down with playing them along side her.
I remember the 90’s and “The Hut” was the place to go for pizza. Not only did they have sweet games in their waiting area but if you recall, they had a Final Four basketball promotion where you could purchase a basketball, for $4.99, with any pizza. I believe by the end of the promotion we had 8 basketballs. Yes, that is how much my family indulged in pizza….or was it the TMNT video game?! Either way if it was the pizza, the video games or the cool promotions I know that we never ordered a Cheeseburger Pizza from “The Hut”
This homemade pizza is so much better than takeout. You could even cut down on the prep time by purchasing a homemade crust, but I can tell you that you will not get a chewy, soft crust unless you make it yourself. I am yet to find the perfect pizza crust you buy on a shelf, therefore, I always resort to making my own. It costs less than store bought and tastes 1000% better, guaranteed. I’ve heard you can buy pizza dough from your local pizzeria but to be honest, I haven’t checked my local restaurants to ask so you could also do that if you have a crust you know and love.
Before having this pizza, I had never tried a cheeseburger pizza, so when I saw this recipe, I was immediately intrigued. It comes together quickly so it’s perfect for a busy weeknight, or around here, we like to have pizza on Fridays (beer included for the adults) Just lay out your crust, brown the meat, stir in a few ingredients and add your favorite cheeseburger toppings, bake and you’ve got yourself a dinner the whole family will love and gobble up. There’s no limit to the amount of toppings you put on your pizza either. You could add onion, peppers, lettuce, jalapenos, and of course as mentioned, bacon.
The pizza dough I have grown to love, never fails me and tastes great is from Iowa Girl Eats. You can find the recipe within this BBQ BLT pizza recipe (which is also delicious) on her page here. I also love her tip about placing the bowl of dough on a heating pad, set on low for an hour, to help the dough rise. Such a genius idea!
