Firecracker popcorn mix is the perfect sweet, salty, festive snack to add a little “pop” to your Fourth of July party this year. This mix features Pop Rocks to give your tastes buds an explosion of flavor. Kids and adults alike will love the popping of “firecrackers” in their mouths.
My family really loves popcorn, I mean REALLY loves popcorn. It’s a must every time we watch a movie, go to the carnival and of course at the movie theater. One time my son woke up and my husband asked him if he had any dreams the night before. His response, “yes, I dreamed of popcorn.” Yes, the love even follows him into his dreams, LOL.
When we are at home, it’s fun for the kids to help and each make their own mix of using an assortment of fun ingredients. We add in some type of chocolate like M & M’s, Reese’s or Junior Mints, peanuts, spices and pretzels. Right before the movie starts, everyone has their own bowl all different from one another. There’s no sharing around here!
My love of popcorn started early. For as long as I can remember we had an electric popcorn maker at home. My dad would add the oil and the motorized rod would start to spin around swirling the oil all over the bottom. In went the popcorn kernels and away it went. It was so much fun to watch the bowl fill to the brim with freshly popped popcorn. It was also the best smelling and best tasting popcorn around. To me, there’s nothing better than air popped popcorn.
So, I decided recently that we needed an ” target=”_blank”>air popper at our house. It was such a good decision. I mean, I rarely have bad decisions when it comes to purchasing kitchen gear. We’ve already gotten really good use out of it. Along with the air popper, I decided I wanted to find a popcorn recipe book so we weren’t just enjoying your standard buttered popcorn. I happened upon ” target=”_blank”>Party Popcorn by Ashton Epps Swank of the food blog, Something Swanky. OMG, I am so glad I did. The first night we had both the popper and recipe book, I told the family to pick 2 recipes; 1 sweet and 1 savory. We went with Nacho Cheese Doritos Popcorn and Scotcheroos Popcorn. WOW, were they ever good! Thanks Ashton, for the amazing recipes! Each page will be splattered before we know it!
I’ve been dreaming up recipes for the Fourth of July and my mind kept going back to Pop Rocks. You know, those delicious little candies that literally crackle and pop in your mouth. They remind you of Fireworks on the Fourth of July so they’re perfect to add to recipes to take along to BBQs, picnics and parties this Independence day. So off to the store I went to locate said Pop Rocks. While shopping, I noticed in my cart I had Pop Rocks, festive red, white and blue sprinkles and popcorn kernels and so my Firecracker Popcorn Mix was born.
I’ve made all types of festive popcorn mixes, spiced popcorn and popcorn treats but I wanted this one to be different, special and exciting. The Pop Rocks did just that. The firecracker popcorn mix is sweet from the white chocolate and M and M’s, salty from the peanuts and pop-y from the Pop Rocks. This is such a delicious and fun combination and one the kids are sure to love! It’s quick and easy and very transportable. I highly recommend you make this Firecracker Popcorn Mix for your next Fourth of July party. I mean, who doesn’t love sweet, salty and red, white and blue? It’ll be a crowd pleaser, promise!

I love this sweet take on a savory classic- buttered popcorn. I do have one question- did you use salted, buttered, or just plain popcorn? But anyways, this looks absolutely delicious! I love how vibrant and colorful this looks. It makes for a nice presentational touch, which is always smiled upon for a food blogger, right? 🙂 Great recipe and AMAZING photographs! I love the addition of pop rocks; adds a nice flavor and texture!
I just made a southern cookin’ blog

Hi Kennedy, I used Orville Smart Pop-buttered. I figured the healthier popcorn balanced out all the sweetness, right? LOL, wishful thinking 😉 Your blog looks great and I’ve put your basil walnut hummus on my must make list-ASAP! Do you have any social media pages I could follow you on?

I swear you are reading my mind!! I was debating between making my chocolate covered apples with pop rocks, a red white and blue puppy chow, or making a red white and blue kettle corn with pop rocks. This popcorn is so beautiful! This is definitely going on my must try list since we are popcorn obsessed to. (Mostly kettle corn of all kinds.) Thanks for sharing it with the red, white, and blue recipe challenge!
