To really round out this party, serve these Slow Cooker Pork Carnitas!
As I mentioned in a blog post last week, it’s party season. From the start of baseball to the Kentucky Derby, to our favorite celebration, Cinco de Mayo, there is much to celebrate this Spring.
When it comes to parties, we find any excuse to throw a party. This year, I’ve gotten together with Sauza® Tequila to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a few of my closest friends. So, it’s margaritas, salsas, guacamoles and tequila! Olé!
I’m not sure where I got the party gene, probably my mother. She threw me a quite an amazing “New Kids on the Block” party compete with pin the lips on Jordan when I was 7 years old. She was all about the details and the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree.
When it comes to party planning, I always start with the perfect invitation to set the tone. I own an invitation business after all. And it just so happens, these Mexican Fiesta invitations are my most popular invitation by far. And for good reason, it’s for a Fiesta people! From bridal showers to parties and everything in between., you can’t go wrong with a Fiesta themed party. are my most popular invitation by far. And for good reason, it’s for a Fiesta people! From bridal showers to parties and everything in between., you can’t go wrong with a Fiesta themed party.
Next, comes the food. I like to keep it simple. This Cinco de Mayo party, we had a nacho bar complete with everything you could ever imagine you’d want on a nacho. There was queso, salsa, guacamole, check out our hatch chile guacamole, it’s a favorite among friends, cheese and veggies.
Onto my favorite part. Did you know Cinco de Mayo is the biggest holiday of the year for tequila? When it comes to tequila, we don’t mess around. Our go to tequila of choice is and always has been Sauza® Tequila. Sauza® Tequila, is made with 100 percent blue weber agave at the renowned Sauza Distillery in Jalisco, Mexico. It’s the perfect tequila for pitcher style margaritas, which are a must when hosting a group of friends.
For our pitcher style margaritas, we went with Sauza Classic Margarita. But here comes the fun part. We also set out a variety fruit, so you can craft your own margarita. There’s strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple and jalapenos so you can go crazy with ingredients. I love to pair herbs with fruit, so I also set out cilantro, basil and mint.
Just set out a muddler with instructions and a few of your favorite combinations, as I’ve done here and have your guests get creative! The favorite ingredient was the jalapeno. A little bit of heat is delicious in these margs!
One of the best things about serving pitcher-style margaritas is that it makes things super easy and the host doesn’t have to stand around playing bartender all night. We made multiple pitchers and store them in the fridge to replenish as needed because when the weather is hot, nothing cools you like a delicious, margarita on the rocks, compete with lime salt!
Let’s not forget about our friends who do not drink alcohol. For them, I like to have these fun Mexican soft drinks that I styled with “Soda Pop” labels.
When hosting a Cinco de Mayo party, don’t forget about the decoration details. I love to use cans of chiles in adobo, jalapenos and refried beans as centerpieces for utensils, floral arrangements and succulents. I happened to find the pom poms at the Dollar store which were a fun addition to the plain wall.
I also use my every day fiesta ware to bring color to the table as well as a large bowl for holding lots of tortilla chips, a serving platter for nacho toppings and Mexican servings bowls for the margarita bar.
It’s super easy, simple and cheap to throw a fun Cinco de Mayo party for your closest friends. Plus, the Sauza Classic Margaritas are fabulous so your friends will always know where to come for a good time!
