Dish out this one skillet, easy and scrumptious, ooey gooey, S’mores Dip for National S’mores Day, which is August 10th. Your family will thank you later! No campfire required!
I don’t know about you but I simply cannot get enough s’mores in my life. Graham crackers, chocolate and melted marshmallows, what is not to love?I’d like to thank the genius that came up with that campfire goodness.
S’mores have taken the food World by storm for the past several years and I ain’t mad about it. From blizzards to Oreos, cocktails, cupcakes and pizza, nothing is being left behind when it comes to the magical trio of deliciousness. I personally wait all year for the DQ S’mores blizzard to hit summertime and jump in my car the second I hear the commercial. I was also a huge fan of the S’mores Oreo. Those people at Nabisco nailed it. In my opinion, it’s the best one yet since the original. And can we talk about the Oreo Thins for a minute? Um, brilliant, except for the fact I’m going to have twice the amount of servings recommended because Hello, 2 thins = 1 regular.
I cannot think and/or talk about smores without mentioning a horrible, but totally laughable now, story that happened to me 7 years ago this summer. My husband and I had just bought our first home and we were so excited to have a Housewarming party. We invited all our friends and partied until the wee hours of the morning. Much to our unclear thinking we decided to have a bonfire and continue the party complete with graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows. We gathered up the campfire sticks and went to work on our late night munchie snack.
Now I’m a girl who likes things slightly charred so I roast mine right over the flames. Having had one too many, as my marshmallow lights on fire, I quickly bring it to my face to blow it out, completely missing my lips and landing right on my cheek. That marshmallow, in all its sticky goodness stuck to my face for what seemed like an eternity. While my face and hair didn’t light on fire, I had a nice red splotch of roasted marshmallow implanted on my face. Needless to say, it was time for me to go to bed.
When I woke up in the morning and no, I did not feel like P.Diddy, I went to the store to buy burn cream in hopes that I wouldn’t have a huge scar on my face and have to retell my s’mores story every time someone noticed it. That cream worked like a charm, thank goodness, and I have no scar on my face to remind me daily when I look in the mirror of the flaming marshmallow that happened upon my face. I’m also happy to report that we have not had a fire incidence at my house in 4 years, which is a good streak considering the first 3 years we had at least once a year. Yikes!
This S’mores Dip couldn’t be easier and bonus no campfire or bonfire required, which is perfect for me. First off, you only need 1 pan, easy cleanup. Second, it’s only 5 ingredients, unless you make the pudding from scratch, which I thought about for .2 seconds until I realized I had a box of chocolate pudding staring me in the face. Thirdly, you should have all 5 ingredients, on hand, in your pantry. TRIPLE BONUS!
This S’mores dip is all about layering. You start by placing marshmallows (I used mini marshmallows) in the bottom of a pan. Top those with pudding and chocolate chips and then finally layer with more marshmallows. The only thing that stands between you and this dip is the 10 minutes it takes to bake in the oven. Perfect and tasty dessert for any night of the week, even in the wintertime.
Just look at all of that ooey gooey chocolately, marshmallow-ey goodness oozing off the graham cracker. It was so delicious, I couldn’t myself from eating it. I went from eating it with graham crackers, to pretzels, and then just nixing the food scooper altogether and using a spoon. I have to admit, it was mine and the kids and the neighbor girl’s dinner that night, opps, sorry kids! Actually, there was no complaining while we were all shoving our mouths full of this s’mores dip. When I returned home that night from a meeting,I went back to eating this dip with a spoon. I almost licked the pan clean, but I have more dignity than that…wait no, who am I kidding. I scraped that thing clean and you will too! Enjoy!
