A mint julep is a cocktail consisting of bourbon, sugar, crushed ice and fresh mint.
They’re typically served in a mint julep cups, you can even get fancy copper julep cups, but I wanted to show the color of this Strawberry Hibiscus Mint Julep, so I went with a clear glass and I recommend you do too.

HOW DO YOU MAKE A MINT JULEP?
I always start by making a mint simple syrup;
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
2 bunches of mint
Simmer until sugar dissolves, turn off heat and allow to come to room temperature. Strain.
You can use mint simple syrup to flavor ice tea, this Vanilla Mint Iced Coffee or other cocktails.
Into a glass, add 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce mint simple syrup (I tend to like mine a little more sweet), 2 ounces of bourbon and fill the glass with crushed ice. Garnish with mint. You could also add a little water when you add the bourbon if you prefer.
Mint juleps are the quintessential drink of the Kentucky Derby.
