My daughter and husband are donut FREAKS! If there is a new donut shop in town opening, they are the first ones in line. It’s becoming “their thing” to go on donut dates and I happen to think it’s the cutest.
Don’t get me wrong, I like donuts too but I don’t love them as much as the two of them do. And if you ask my son, he’ll say “yuck” and proceed to order a cinnamon roll or something of that nature.
But if you ask me what I think of these Strawberry Lemonade Donuts, it was love at first smell. The scent wafting from the oven is that of a fresh-baked strawberry loaf. I immediately ate one straight outta the oven without the glaze. They don’t even need the glaze, they’re that good but the lemonade glaze is everything!
Many years ago I bought a donut pan with the intention of making donuts every weekend (don’t we all.) As that donut pan sat in the cabinet, collecting dust, I figured a few weekends ago, with #Brunchweek right around the corner, it would be a great time to get it back out and test my hands at some springtime donuts.
It also helped that our sponsor, LorAnn Oils and Flavors, graciously let us pick 3 flavors from their wonderful line up of Bakery Emulsions. I immediately selected Lemon and Hazelnut and thought real hard about what to select as my third choice. I landed on strawberry.
In all honesty, I had purchased a strawberry extract before that was just so fake tasting that I had to throw it away. I figured I’d give this one a try and I’m SO happy I did.
Once I had the 3 flavors at home, I decided I’d use the strawberry and lemon for these strawberry lemonade donuts and the hazelnut recipe is coming on the last day of the week!
Dixie Crystals is also a sponsor of #Brunchweek so I used their sugar in the base of these donuts too! YAY for amazing sponsors and fabulous products!
These strawberry lemonade donuts are super simple to make and your kids will love to help you. I added finely diced strawberries to the batter to give an extra texture and boost of sweetness from fresh strawberries. There’s also lemon zest in the batter to mimic the lemonade glaze on the outside.
Strawberry Lemonade is a favorite drink of ours in the summertime and now we have the same flavors in these amazing donuts.
